It's a trap, comparisons do you no good.

Comparing yourself to others is almost never a good thing. In fact, individuals with greater social comparison from low self esteem have worse mental health. Comparing yourself to others can make you feel like you’re not good enough compared to the next, or even what you have isn’t good enough. Comparisons often result in resentment, towards others and towards ourselves.

Social media is a large outlet for comparison and can cause a negative effect on our self esteem, especially apps like Instagram and TikTok, where it’s easy to get caught in the next persons life. It’s important to remember that everyone is not the same, and we ALL have our own path on this journey called life. Whether you know it or not, we stifle our own personal growth and look down on our own accomplishments when we decide to compare ourselves to others.

We should all strive to learn how to enjoy our journey with no comparison, and we should all remember that having confidence to be yourself is an extremely powerful and inspiring way to live.

Now, I know this is easier said than done, because even I fall into the habit of comparing my life coaching to others. Am I reaching my clients like they reach theirs? Should I cater my style to be more like Tony Robbins? NO! I am my own individual, unique person and I have to remember that my journey is just that.... My journey. Who knows how long it took for them to get to where they are now? I’m proud of me now, and I have to remember that when I go through life. Be proud of who you are and where you are right now. You are exactly where you're suppose to be at.

Some things that we can do to focus on ourselves and our own accomplishments are;

⁃ practicing gratitude! When we recognize what we have, it helps us view our lives in a different perspective

⁃ practicing positive affirmations; tell yourself how proud you are, how good of a job you’re doing, etc. It’s important to pour into yourself just as you would pour into others.

⁃ give yourself a break; log off of your social media and go on a walk, or meditate. Do something that you feel can ground you and bring you back to earth.

If you need an extra push and help to get out of this habit, contact me. Let’s work together so you can enjoy life to the fullest and appreciate who you are like you’re supposed to.. Remember, you are special, you are unique, you are in your own lane... and YOU ARE DOPE!!!
